I bought three 8x10 canvases at 40% off. I think that worked out to be about $7.50 total. I also bought gray acrylic paint at 50% off and 8.5x11 full size sheet sticky labels. The labels were the most expensive thing, but I have since found many cool things to print out on them. Oh, my labels were clear. I think that makes a difference because paint can't bleed through them. You also want to buy canvases that are already treated with gesso. I took profile pictures of my dogs, printed them out and cut them out with as much detail as possible. You want a lot of details with pets because otherwise they end up looking like sock puppets. I learned this the hard way two canvases later. Trust me. Stick the cut out labels on the canvases and paint in the white areas. Pull off labels and let dry. Instant art work. Easy peasy.
As I look at this picture I realize that their portraits are crooked. Trust me, this will be fixed tonight! I can't stand a crooked picture!

WoW! Now that's creative artwork...super cool idea. If you look around my blog, you will see there are MANY more pics of our furry kids than the ones I gave birth to.
Cool idea!
